About Guna Yala (San Blas)

Guna Yala (formerly San Blas) is an indigenous comarca that has been almost fully self-governing since 1925, with its own general congress (Congreso General Guna), its own local laws, and its own flag. The archipelago's 365+ islands range from tiny uninhabited sandbars to small Guna-run communities, with mola textile art — hand-sewn panels — as the territory's best-known craft. Accommodation is simple, family-run cabins directly on the islands, often without constant electricity.
