A short ~45-minute ferry from Keramoti, near Kavala, makes Thasos practically an easy extension of northern mainland Greece rather than a full island trip. Green and forested, with good beaches (Golden Beach/Chrysi Ammoudia), family-friendly, and cheaper — but with a different, less 'classic Cyclades' profile and limited international recognition.
